The Difference - A Poem

Heh....a poem I wrote spontaneously.....honestly, I'm not sure what to make of it. This is the first poem I've written for non school purposes that doesn't have the words 'death' or 'die' in it. I know, I'm such a cheery person.

Now listen here
And let me tell you a tale
Of when the cat chased the dog
And the fish ate the whale

The cat was fed up
With being chased around
So it turned on its heel
And started chasing the hound

The dog was surprised
To say the least
And suddenly wished
That the cat had a leash

The cat chased the dog
All round the barn
Until it got distracted
By a ball of yarn

The dog didn’t wait
It took its chance
And ran from the barn
Ending this dance

The fish was fed up
With watching the whale eat others
So it gathered its courage
And got revenge for its brothers

The whale was shocked
That one little fish
Would be strong enough
To put it on the dish

But the fish wasn’t finished
It opened its mouth wide
And took the whale in its fins
And stuffed it inside

The key difference here
Between the dog and the whale
Is that while the whale couldn’t escape
The dog was lucky enough to bail

Ta-da!

  1. Thank you so much! The whale probably didn't deserve to be eaten but...the fish thought he did~

  2. Ugh...I just realized that, technically, I killed the whale.

    Really great work.

I've never been able to write a happy poem.

  6. Reminds me of a poem called The Guinea Pig by an anonymous author.

There was a little guinea pig,
    Who being little, was not big;
He always walked upon his feet,
And never fasted when he eat.

When from a place he run away,
    He never at the place did stay;
And while he run, as I am told,
He never stood still for young or old.

He often squeaked, and sometimes violent,
And when he squeaked he never was silent.
Though never instructed by a cat,
He knew a mouse was not a rat.

One day, as I am certified,
    He took a whim, and fairly died;
And as I am told by men of sense,
He never has been living since.

  7. *grins*

Thanks Octa. It's hard for me to write happy things. At first, the fish was going to loose his tail, but then I was like "No, I can't rhyme tale with tail" but the REAL thought behind that was "I think I need to kill something in this." Lol :P
