The Road To Nowhere - A Poem

..........Um. Well, you go ahead and read this. I'm going to go wallow in my inability to actually write something HAPPY for a change.
__________________________________________________________________________

If I take another step forward
I’ll be on the road to nowhere
The road that the hopeless take
The road for those without a care

Is the journey worth it?
Is this really where I want to go?
Is something waiting for me on the other side?
Something that I just don’t know?

And who really is to say
That the road truly leads to nothing?
Maybe it does go to somewhere
That the stories are all just covering

Maybe I can really get somewhere
If I decide to go this way
But right now I think that choice
Should be reserved for another day

Because right now I’m standing at the crossroad
And I feel perfectly content
I think I’d like to stay here a bit
But I know this is a choice I can’t prevent

I'm such a rubbish poet. Octa, if you could give me some feedback, I'd absolutely love it. You're the best poet I know.

  1. I wouldn't call you a rubbish poet!

I'd call you quite a good one.

I for one can't write truly happy poems either.

I've only recently been able to attempt funny.

I like the ABCB rhyming scheme you have there.

It's quite effective and is only forced in the third verse. Well done! It is exceedingly hard to rhyme and I recommend using rhyme sparingly.

As in 1 out of every 5 or 10 poems you write.

Unless you like rhyming. As long as you can make it work.

I love the title which is simple but totally brilliant. You've chosen a great subject matter too.

My best advice is to keep on practicing, try as much as you can and more impoertantly read lots of poetry. That is vital.

Hope I helped. And thankyou for being brave and putting up a poem. It's refreshing to read someone elses poem for a change.

  2. Wow, Octa, thank you. I really didn't expect such a quick reply. I'll take your advice to heart and apply it to the next poem I write. My Edgar Allen Poe book will now be my constant companion.

Once again, I thank you so much.
